Nice wide format characters, 6 character formating. A new e mbossed plate in 2020, who would have thought. Clean , simple design. Bravo Missouri. And an embossed expiration month. My god, other states should take notes.
Happy bicentennial!

I got mine put on in December. Of course, they expire in September, got them in October, threw them on the dash until I get pulled over. No ticket though. I rarely drive it though. As I drive a lot of work trucks.

Nice plate, many states make it way too complicated.
Also this reminded me to check in on New York’s license plate shenanigans, it turns out Cuomo failed to get the Tappan Zee (Mario Cuomo) bridge on the plate: Rigged or Not, N.Y.’s License Plate Contest Ends With Cuomo’s Bridge Last They ended up picking the bottom right, which is similar in concept to the plate NY used in the ‘90s (and in my mind better executed) :

Mean while in Ontario they still can’t make a plate that last longer then 3 years.
7 car pileup would be a good name for a rock band

Most the ones we have here in Michigan start peeling off in 3-4 years now too.

There’s really no need. Even just using letters, 6 digits gives you 300M+ combinations (a tiny handful will be obscene) . Add in numbers and you have a bunch more even if you skip 0, 1, and 5 for looking to much like O, I, and S, you have 1.29B combinations. Plenty for any state.
Here in MA, we still use 6 digits, though we recently switched from AAA 111 to 1AAA 11. We also limit the pool by requiring the last number be the expiration month for normal non-vanity, non-commercial plates.

yeah... I was just joshing. Figure my state just needed a reason to make me buy a new plate for my wife’s car....

Growing up in NC we always had 7 characters . Although as a plate collector I like to specialize in the rare early issue 5 and 6 digit “ first in flight” plates .
I live in Georgia now, so still with 7 characters.

Wait, there are states with non-embossed plates? The only flat ones here are vanity plates (they used to emboss them, but they quit doing it). All of ours are basic embossed non-vanity plates.

A lot of states absolutely burn numbers for no reason, though. California is one of few states that don’t (I think you can transfer old plates/numbers, too , though I’m not sure they can be sold like in a certain eastern state) . Other states I’ve lived in issued a fresh plate/number to every car moved into the state, every time they changed hands, etc. My current state issues them every time a car changes hands with very few exceptions, so they’re burning through plate numbers fast.

T o link the plate to the driver/owner, my guess is it removes the question of “it wasn’t me” if someone then did something with the car, speedcamera, gas’n’go etc.

Georgia has been non- embossed since 2012. I like the minimal peach plate though. Miss my old embossed NC plate.

As a license plate person that list has several glaring inaccuracies. Pretty good list though for those unfamiliar with state plates, but they have a lot of out of date plates for a list published in 2018. Not to mention some of the information on them is just incorrect.

It’s weird because they know that, the descriptions call out that they are out of date, or specialty plates. Seems very weird not to just show the current primary plate from each state.

That excuse hasn’t been valid for at least 25 years. All these things could happen with stolen cars and even borrowed cars, but they don’t issue separate plates for every person that drives a car.
